A new investment by pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca will bring 500 new jobs to Mississauga.

The company, known for being the developer of one of Canada’s approved COVID-19 vaccines, announced a major expansion of their research and development hub Monday. The hub focuses on clinic studies in areas such as breast, lung and prostate cancer; COVID-19; and chronic kidney disease.“This expansion will create 500 more good middle class jobs here in the GTA,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told reporters.

Trudeau also mentioned the importance of collecting data and sharing it across the country, something he says is the cornerstone of what his government is building in provincial health-care systems. A commitment to data sharing was one of the conditions accepted by the Ontario government in the federal health-care deal.

AstraZeneca says the Mississauga-based hub has doubled in size since 2019 and is leading more than 120 oncology and biopharmaceutical studies involving patients in more than 50 countries. The president of AstraZeneca Canada said the expansion of its facilities in the GTA will play a critical role in developing new medicines and potentially “curing complex diseases.”

Speaking to reporters Ontario Premier Doug Ford touted the investment, saying he was “thrilled” to welcome the expansion of a “cutting edge research facility right here in Mississauga.” This significant investment adds to the substantial investment that AstraZeneca has made in Canada since 2021 and will create 500 new, great paying jobs for Ontarians,” he said. “It will increase the number of clinical trials in oncology and immunology, helping to accelerate the development of innovative therapeutic drugs and vaccines for patients in Ontario, but also around the world.”In 2021, AstraZeneca Canada invested about $135 million in research and development.

Great more blood clots

No diss on jobs, but why, because they were so successful with their CoVic vaccine?

We don't want to take anymore unknown drug into our body

Awkward!

Why bother, most of us have had enough. Says '90% of drugs just work in 30 to 50% of people. And says there the biggest commercial hoax in history'. and 'its usually impossible to prove a drug has harmed you'.

AstraZeneca wants MBA with 8+ years of experience how can anyone qualify other than cheat on resumes either create jobs for whom ? Waste of tax payers investments pharma related industries seperates others eho not qualified for the health care market not everyone is health works

Wonderful more pockets getting filled by our clowns in government province and federal 😩

Bioweapon manufacturer.

last time I remember AstraZeneca is from Russia...and the man on the right is supporting Ukraine.

500 killer jobs.

💉💉💉💉💉💉🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡💰💰💰💰💰

JustinTrudeau used an interesting phrase to describe the future healthcare provided to Canadians: 'Sufficient Level of Healthcare'. This reminded me of my days at a major multinational, my instructions were to deliver 'Minimally Essential' level of service. onpoli

We really should own our own vaccine research and manufacturing facility. Odds are good that many of us will live through another pandemic courtesy of climate change. Fuck foreign pharma.

I heard today that some of the healthcare investors already started discussing taking their hospitals and clinics public. You invest a hundred and win a million by charging the poor Ontarians for healthcare. onpoli maritstiles MikeSchreiner JohnFraserOS

Yahoo!!! I can't wait to not take that either. Yippee.

You should apply HelenaTsapoitis

Murderers...

Using our money to fund private big pharma...

You know who they are hiring

Funny how you're quiet on this.

We the guinea pigs 😇

1/2 fordnation government want to ship poor people who can not afford private healthcare & private schools to other provinces. OHIP insured services are shrinking by the day, the doctor said not me What happened to the doctors who spoke openly, they are all fired JustinTrudeau

2/2 JustinTrudeau and his government MUST stop them before it is too late. Sufficient level of healthcare is not enough Mr. Trudeau, Canadians are either covered or not covered. End the slavery now.

Who will be Guinea pig ?

Trudeau still travelling blowing carbons like no planet alive. Yet why is he never home!! What's wrong at home!!!

Despite the fact that its vaccine causes blood clots and has been discontinued as vaccine in many countries. Why are Canadians so far behind the ''news cycle.''

Wonder what personal kick backs they'll receive.

Big Pharma in bed with Big Government.

They’ve killed far more than 500.

Employees just have to sell their soul to the devil OR Trudeau.

Why does this announcement feel sinister? After we finally confirmed it’s a lab leak, and people aren’t actually racist and misogynistic for suggesting it came from a lab. Justin Trudeau is an enemy of Canada. He’s blaming racism for Chinas election meddling. We’re toast folks!

your comment section on twitter is a ridiculous joke.

More poison, awesome

500 new jabs oops I mean jobs 🤦🏻‍♂️

How tone deaf can 2 people be?

Funding for healthcare? No?
