Town Centre Lanes, formerly known as Knox Hall, in Glace Bay will soon host a flea market every second Sunday.GLACE BAY — A once well-known but sometimes forgotten building in downtown Glace Bay is making a comeback as a home base for cultural and community-based programming.
“We have held the odd vendors sales at Knox Hall and we got to meet some people and we have seen the potential for the hall,” said Cindy Holloway, one of the flea market organizers. “So, we decided to start doing a flea market every other week where people can come and meet the local crafters and sellers and help support them.”Holloway hopes the flea market in Glace Bay will be a more easily accessible option for residents of the area who can’t travel out of town to other markets.
“We were starting to get a positive flow through it and we were looking to get something like that back up and running,” said Knarr. “Then Cindy and approached me a few times in the last year and year and a half about doing flea markets every couple of months, and craft sales and vendor sales.”Knarr hopes the market can join daily bowling activities, floor hockey programs and other rentals in bringing more activity back to the hall.
Holloway believes the flea market can help struggling businesses get their names out in the community and assist with fundraising efforts to fix up the hall.
