Nearly 18 months after they were due to be repaid, Irish investors in Solar 21 have not recouped their money – and financial experts have raised worries over substantial inter-company borrowing and lending.

In the autumn of 2020, Solar 21 sent a newsletter to update the Irish investors who had put more than €250 million into the Dublin-based renewable energy firm. The six-page document said the company was “making great strides” with plans for energy from a waste plant.

A promotional video posted online said the plant would burn fuel produced from domestic and business waste to make steam, which would turn a turbine to power a generator. ...
