The Justice Department filed a lawsuit seeking to block JetBlue Airways Corp. from merging with Spirit Airlines Inc., arguing the deal would stifle competition and lead to higher fares.
The DOJ filed its lawsuit Tuesday in Massachusetts federal court. The states of New York and Massachusetts and the government of the District of Columbia are also plaintiffs on the civil case, which says the merger would eliminate Spirit as a low-cost competitor to the major carriers.
Can JetBlue Grandfather Spirit routes as discounted for 10 years.
How many times is this going to happen, feel like I've read this headline half a dozen times in the last year
Who didn’t see this coming? I mean the merger of 2 LCC’s could only mean one thing. Thought they likely would still have Frontier and Allegiant to compete with.
I get wanting competition in the airline business, but spirit is such a shitty airline it’s probably better for them to attach themselves to JetBlue.
When trying to determine whether the deal is good or bad for the consumer, ask yourself this… Do the big four (UA, AA, DL, WN) want the merger to succeed or to be blocked?
