"The merger of JetBlue and Spirit would result in higher fares and fewer choices for tens of millions of travelers across the country." by creating a stronger airline that could better compete with American, Delta, United and Southwest, but the DOJ said the merger is all about eliminating Spirit's low-cost fares.
"Over the years, there's been more and more consolidation, merger after merger of fewer and fewer airlines to choose from and I think that puts passengers at a disadvantage," Buttigieg said.
