WeightWatchers' stock soared Tuesday after the company said it is getting into the prescription drug weight loss business with the acquisition of Sequence.

Although the Food and Drug Administration approved semaglutide in 2017, interest in the drug has surged only recently after a number of viral social media posts touted the drug as"Hollywood's worst kept secret," among other claims. The"Ozempic" hashtag has racked up 622 million views on TikTok.

The off-label use of semaglutide, spurred by social media posts, led to a shortage of the drug for most of last year. Novo Nordisk said supplies are being replenished, but many diabetes patients still report trouble accessing the drugs they need. Obesity prevalence rose from 30.5% from the 1999-2000 period to 41.9% for 2017 through March 2020, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The prevalence of severe obesity surged from 4.7% to 9.2% for the same periods.

"This deal brings access to prescription drug solutions for weight loss to WW's historical focus on behavior modification model," wrote UBS analyst Michael Lasser."This is a significant change in the business. While the deal could bring considerable upside, it also carries sizable risks."

I was 314 a few years ago I am at 235 today and still loosing weight i didn't need any prescription to do it I decided I didn't want to be a lazy fat fuck anymore no magic shot needed. Stop eating uncontrollably and get up and walk and you will lose weight 🙄

Oprah is such a hypocrite. Always talks about helping women and girls. Is this the example she wants to set. Don’t exercise or eat healthy, take a pill.

Sure, he can talk the talk, but he totally stumbles and fails when it's time to walk the walk.

So much for watching what you eat

Weight Watchers and exercise are perfect tools for weight loss. Doctors are too scared to tell their patients in order to lose weight, one must follow a healthy diet plan and exercise. With an organic diet, Tabata, kickboxing and Muay Thai, I lost weight and feel fabulous.

Guaranteed the price of Ozempic will soar to the $Thousands

Ozempic is for sick people, not the lazy

How dare the people who are billionaires like Oprah, to allow such stupid health care.

Move more, eat less.
