SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Some school districts are taking matters into their own hands, claiming that social media companies are hurting students’ mental health.
Scottsdale mom Karen Stokes says it is a good idea for the district to join the lawsuit. She says she limits phone use for her own son. While social media can help many connect to people, it can also be damaging. The American Academy of Pediatrics says teens who spend more time on social media report high symptoms of loneliness, depression, and anxiety.
“What we know is overall, what social media is taking away from our students. Things like sleep, authentic connection with each other, being out in nature, moving your bodies,” McPherson continued. “I would be pointing people to what is your child consuming, what is the content they’re consuming, who are they connecting with and if they are on too long, what is it taking away from them?”
Kids take drugs it’s the drug companies fault. Pay attention to your kids and stop blaming everyone else!
Where is the parents responsiblity? Keep your kids off social media. They should pay more attention to their children. Y’all want to blame everyone else for your kids problems. Start suing people making bad posts and they will stop!
Wow
Stop giving ur kids phones to take to school.. just a thought.. or maybe have all turn kids turn their phone before school and get them returned when schools out.. 🤷🏾♂️
of course the scottsdale school would sue
Money, money, money!
👏👏👏👏👏👏
Those kids don’t have parents or what?
When will they sue gunManufactures ?
The answer is easier. Restrict your kids phone. My kids phones are controlled by Family Link by Google. iPhone has a similar option. It's up to the parent to control this. The school can control it in school by blocking the sites with VPN on their computers and WiFi.
Interesting conversation needs to be had about the culpability between the parents and these social media platforms. Parents act like they are concerned about what is being taught in schools, still buy their 11 year old a $1000 phone with full unrestricted access to these apps.
Where are the parents in all this? What responsibility are they taking here? What kid uses Facebook these days anyway. Parents stop giving your kids phones when they are 7 years old or even younger. How about we start there?
The lack of schools caring about kids when they tell them they're being bullied and not doing something about it is the problem parents should be suing schools.
Power to ya! Where do I sign up!!
