UK startup ViridiCO2 is helping chemical manufacturers cut fossil fuel use with captured carbon.We got an exclusive look at the 15-slide pitch deck it used to secure the round.
The University of Southampton spinout converts carbon dioxide into the building blocks of everyday chemicals, which are used in everything from furniture and washing detergent to cars. The building blocks – surfactants, polymer feedstocks, and other small molecules – are traditionally made with fossil fuels.
Its output is used as a feedstock to replace 50% of the fossil fuels used to make chemicals, which in turn are used by consumer product manufacturers. This is due to its design, which doesn't need green hydrogen or"an awful lot of electricity" like those that can replace 100%, Stewart said. The company is exploring ways to produce 100% fossil fuel-free polymers using bio-feedstocks.
