Oscars: Producers Glenn Weiss And Ricky Kirshner On Their Plans For Sunday’s Big Night: Surprises, Stars, Security & Bringing Back The Audience – The Deadline Interview

Weiss is actually no stranger to the Oscars having directed the seven previous ceremonies for which he won two Emmys, plus 21 Tony Awards shows for which he won 12 Emmys. Along with his partner Kirshner who also has 30 years of entertainment production experience and won 9 Emmys, the pair between them has also done numerous Super Bowl Halftime Shows, political conventions, Emmy Awards shows, Presidential Inaugurals, and so many more.

The Academy famously eliminated eight categories last year and pre-taped them, edited them, and rolled them into the live show, in order to save time. It upset many AMPAS members and the show wound up being one of the longest ever, so that didn’t work.

“We’re going to present it [Oscars] in a way that let’s get right back to it. It’s all about these films. I think you’re going to see a lot of these movies from a perspective that you’ve never seen before, which is really kind of exciting us,” Weiss said
