An early morning fire on Wednesday destroyed 19 shops and a mosque at the Rimi Market in Kano Municipal Local Government Area of Kano State.

The fire which reportedly broke out at about 1.46am was said to have destroyed goods worth millions of naira.

The Public Relations Officer, Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, who confirmed the incident, said the service’s control room received an emergency call at about 1.46am from one Ahmad Tijjani that the market was on fire. He explained that firefighters from Kano Central Fire Station and Audu Bako Secretariat succeeded in putting out the fire.

He said, “Today, being Wednesday, March 8, 2023, our control room received an emergency call at about 1.46 am from one Ahmad Tijjani, reporting an outbreak of fire at Rimi Market Kano Municipal Area.
