As soon as the power goes off and the traffic lights are out, homeless men sporting bright-green high-visibility vests emerge apparently from nowhere and start directing the cars at a busy Johannesburg intersection. | News24_Business

South Africa is buckling under unprecedented power cuts, which are crippling everything from manufacturing to the flow of traffic.Ordinarily, when stop lights go out, the police come and direct the traffic at city crossroads.

"Without us being around here it is causing a couple of accidents," Aubrey Ndlovu, a 31-year-old migrant from Zimbabwe, told AFP at an intersection in the affluent northern suburb of Bryanston. They are"doing a commendable job," he said, while emphasising that the city was not liable for any accidents that might occur under their watch.

_Business the strange things that take place in a failed state. who’s supposed to celebrate this?

_Business Actually what is their job Course metro police can make a roadblock just before the non working robot, while they know that the road is on traffic, instead of helping the the cars to move correctly

_Business An opportunity for the government to create more job by hiring them

_Business This problem does not exist in Ekurhuleni. Johannesburg North is a particular hotspot. Fourways & Sandton in particular.

_Business have a car accident with one of these guys controlling traffic and see what your insurance says

_Business On Jan Smuts they do an amazing job.

_Business It's seriously annoying as motorists know it's a 4 way stop. These buggers cock up the entire system. Government get your paid traffic staff out there to do the job! Or train these people who Clearly want to work so they can regulate the traffic correctly.

_Business They must be arrested

_Business Where are the traffic officers?

_Business Until they cause an accident

_Business Rosebank - traffic controlled during loadshedding - doing us all a service, saving time and money - please can these guys and girls be formally trained and absorbed in the labour force - loadshedding is here to stay, they might as well!

_Business Old News

_Business Zimbabwean homeless immigrant 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

_Business Because JMPD is sleeping, focusing on taking bribes only

_Business 😔🙏

_Business Those people make the traffic flow much better during busy times. Atleast they doing something to make it better for all.

_Business And people be out here saying JMPD earn little

_Business Numrun

_Business Thisnis exactly what is happening with our politics. Our president with those around him have gone awol...and now you have the likes of juju(the homeless in reflective vests) calling for the economy to be shut down because they can't win enough votes.

_Business Why don't we train them to do the job?

_Business ....they are mostly doing a better job of directing traffic than what traffic cops do...

_Business Where is JMPD? Sleeping ? What weird country. Vagrants directing traffic while the traffic department sits on their behinds snoring in the office. Sad, that they still get paid every month.

_Business Where are the jmpd this should not be allowed FFS they are not trained and definitely under the influence of drugs and or alcohol what the Fuck is wrong with this government that they are so slow in addressing this issue there have been many concerns and they ignore

_Business Jmpd (never seen any) should be out directing traffic at the most busiest intersections. Not the homeless who have no idea of directing traffic.

_Business Provide them with training, give them shelter and motorists must be allowed to donate or give tips. Traffic flow is generally more efficient when these okes are working the streets. Or the state can employ them full time and fire the dead wood in the metro police.

_Business If Antiwhitism isn't stopped traffic will go back to donkey carts.

_Business But it should be the metro police.

_Business So?
