- According to the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru , copper production in Peru, the world’s second largest copper producing country, amounted to 198,621 tonnes in January 2023, down 0.3% compared to January 2022 .
MINEM said that this negative performance was mainly due to lower production by major local copper mining companies, including Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde S.A.A. , Compañía Minera Antamina S.A. and Southern Perú Copper Corporation . At the company level, Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde S.A.A. is first with a 19.2% share in total Peru’s copper output, followed by Compañía Minera Antamina S.A. and Southern Perú Copper Corporation .
MINEM added that at the regional level, Arequipa is first with a 19.3% share in the country’s total copper production, followed by Moquegua and Áncash .
