On Monday, Illinois became one of three states to mandate paid time off “for any reason.' Small business owners say they know the importance of taking care of their workers, but some view the requirement as a government-imposed burden.

Juliana Stratton, second from left, and Senate Majority Leader Kimberly Lightford, right, watch on Monday, March 13, 2023, in Chicago. CHICAGO — Doug Knight’s family has owned Springfield amusement park Knight’s Action Park since 1930, himself for 43 of those years. The pandemic was a bear — Knight fought to keep his doors open, and when they closed for COVID-19, he pushed to reopen as soon as possible. Inflation, too, has been an obstacle. From inflatable inner tubes to chlorine for the pools, prices have risen for “everything we buy,” and now a new Illinois law represents “another bump on the road” for business owners, he says.

For sure. Do businesses can now fire workers after 3 paid days off for excessive absences! Do great problem created!

Isn’t that was vacation or PTO is for?

Just like that ..... less hiring

How is paying people 40 hours for vacation any different than paying them 40 hours to work, all these people saying it’s going to be a strain… 🫣

“We know it’s important to take care of our employees, we just don’t want to”

Wow allowing someone time off is a burden!! That’s exactly why the law is being put into place because that is the perspective of most work places! They think you don’t deserve to live like them!! Yea we do!

I remember when this was called vacation time

it is. they’re becoming very popular these days

Sounds like a horrible idea. What happens when a small business has 4, 5, or 6 people decide to take this leave at the same time leaving the company with not enough employees to open a store?

Socialists love to pay workers to *not* go to work

Nevada does *not* mandate PTO for businesses 50 employees, which is a reasonable exemption.

Once against, the Associated Press is doing the bidding of giant corporations.

Notice the pattern?

If your business success is based on exploiting your workers then you’re probably bad at business

If you run a sole proprietorship, you're allowed to complain. If you've a corp. of any kind, you don't get to complain about government-imposed anything. Your entire personal wealth is being protected by the government, and by extension, by your neighbors.

They're doing this because too many businesses try to keep people from taking time off when they're sick by saying they have to get a doctor's note, knowing full well how difficult and expensive that is.

“You can’t force me to pay someone for being sick!” -an impotent balding Republican voter that owns a 3 person business, is a millionaire, and pays his employees min wage

They are called personal days. They already exist.

But it’s ok that your park took two PPP loans for 652k?

If your business model requires underpaying your workers and working them to death then your business model isn't sustainable.

Progressive policies are weapons of mass economic destruction.

Yes, democratic socialist policies tend to stress small businesses because capitalism depends on a clear and impenetrable divide between the worker and the wealthy class. It makes owning a small biz harder than it should be. This is why capitalism sucks.

So because you’re a “ small business owner” you should be able to exploit people. What bullshit. These aren’t “mom and pop” stores. They’re million dollar business.

Absolutely disgusting abuse of power. I’m sure consumers will just love the price increases this will cause, or the loss of businesses in Illinois.

fat demon

'We don't need a law, we already do that but if you make us do that we'll diiiiiieeeee!!!!!!!'

'World Cup's on. Pay up, bitches!'

Socialism ALWAYS fails. EVERY time💯

This kinda crap is why we find ways to get stuff done without hiring anyone. Congrats.

We call those people “assholes whose opinions don’t matter”

The answer is generally less govt

Bad idea

“We know it’s important to take care of our employees, we just don’t want to”

It's 75 and sunny. I need the day off. Thanks.

Too fucking bad lmao
