Earlier this month, 12 senators led by Democrat Mark Warner and Republican John Thune unveiled legislation backed by the White House to give the Commerce Department new powers to address TikTok that has more than 100 million U.S. users.
Biden's predecessor, Republican Donald Trump, had tried to ban TikTok in 2020 but was blocked by U.S. courts. Separately, a source confirmed to Reuters Friday the Justice Department has opened a criminal investigation after ByteDance said in December some employees improperly accessed U.S. TikTok user data of two journalists.four ByteDance employees who were involved in the incident were fired, including two in China and two in the United States. Company officials said they were taking additional steps to protect user data.
American-style democracy and freedom of speech are sieging TikTok, a social software that is not controlled by any country, under the guise of national security, even though the data of the software is in the United States and supervised by American companies.
When free speech becomes the enemy
Banning media companies seems like a big Nazi thing to do.
Probably just a coincidence and totally unrelated and no insider trading
So Trump was right years ago...
after tiktok what's next?
More power, yeah good call.... Not like they historically abuse power or anything.
I get it but this is a politically moronic idea.
This good for tiktok objects cameras
You f he gets power to ban tik tok, what is to stop him or someone else banning other social media platforms? Would that be facists or Authoritarian if he had that power?
Not sure this is a good idea; basically it would give any future president the power to ban any media corporation if he or she doesn’t like what they say…
um healthcare please, thanks
Biden is just begging to lose 2024.
Of course they do. Of course.
Well then... why not BAN CCP 'voting' machines that changed votes at night, being ON THE INTERNET ? ...besides the FACT that our ally Taiwan makes much better ones and MOST of the chips our military uses !
So this is okay now but not when Trump was president?
FYI Biden isn’t banning Tik Tok 😂😂
