Experts say Texas is among the top states for business but caution on saying it’s No. 1 -- as Gov. Greg Abbott has said.

The Tax Foundation ranked Texas No. 13 in itsand has consistently ranked Texas outside the top 10. Texas’ best ranking during Abbott’s tenure is No. 11 in 2016.

“There’s no one measure that can capture everything about a state’s business climate, but there’s no denying that Texas is highly competitive, with low taxes, low regulatory burdens, and a strong economy that attracts many businesses and individuals,” said Jared Walczak, vice president of State Projects at the Tax Foundation. “Unsurprisingly, governors across the country tend to highlight the rankings on which their states do the best.

Richard Alm, a writer-in-residence at Southern Methodist’s University Birdwell Institute for Economic Freedom, pointed out that Texas has always been among the most business-friendly states. Texas’ economy was considered among the best under former Gov. Rick Perry. “Basically, his claim really should be not that he did something to make Texas No. 1, but that he didn’t mess anything up that was already functioning quite well, in terms of the state economy,” Alm said, referring toThis is not the first time PolitiFact has fact-checked a governor or top elected official saying their state is the best for business. In 2017, former Georgia Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, in running for governor, said Georgia was the No. 1 state for business.

Companies and hospitals are having recruitment issues because people don’t want to live in Texas. Its reputation is not good, especially among young educated people.

Nope. When you drive up home prices and taxes, young families leave. When you attack basic human rights, young families leave. When gun violence is rampant, families leave. When educated professionals don’t want to live in your state, businesses look elsewhere.

Its not in the top 10 for newspapers. Worry about what you can control.

No

Looking at these comments, the answer, it’s pretty clear

He said TEXAS not Dallas. Everyone knows Dallas is basically California now and Dallas killed all the business they had.🙄😒🤣🤣🤣

Texas rocks! ESG doesn't.

Hell yes it is! Has been for decades! GO TEXAS!

PolitiFact - Gov. Greg Abbott says Texas is No. 1 state for business, but is it?Gov. Greg Abbott said Texas has been the No. 1 state for business every year he’s been governor, but that comes from one magazine’s ranking. Other well-respected sources have Texas ranked lower. Typical of PolitiFact. They hunt for liberal sources to use as ammunition to feed their preconceived bias'. More importantly - Texas ranks 47th for employees!!! GovAbbott always focuses on companies and NOT his constituents. Politifact attacks conservatives again in efforts to affect elections. PF consistently avoids fact checking its media allies' daily media misinformation.
