Alberta cracking down on 'delinquent' oil companies owing millions in municipal taxes ableg abpoli

“That is why we’re putting in place this ministerial order — to continue building on our recent work. Our goal is to reduce unpaid taxes throughout the province.”The move comes after the RMA had complained the province’s efforts to ensure payment had proven ineffective in solving a problem that’s severely compromised municipalities’ financial health — even threatening the survival of some.

Paul McLauchlin, president Rural Municipalities of Alberta, said the government is “addressing the future.”He said the new order should make $110 million of the back taxes recoverable and should make an accumulation of unpaid levies a thing of the past.
