KUALA LUMPUR: Highway concession companies are required to periodically maintain their roads on a daily basis and they were given full allocations to do so, says Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad.

“The concession companies involved will be given full allocations,” said Abdul Rahman during his winding-up speech on Monday .

Abdul Rahman, responding to a question from Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, said that maintenance costs are often overlooked when the construction of a new road was being planned.“What are the new approaches by the ministry to ensure that maintenance costs are included and repairs on roads should be standard compliant to road users?” Dr Wee asked.“Sometimes vehicles that are over 100 tonnes were driving on roads meant for 30 tonnes.

“These were among the causes of road damages that could not be expected by the technical team themselves,” said Abdul Rahman.“There are also roads that have exceeded their lifespan. Some premixes that were used cannot last more than seven years, said Abdul Rahman “It requires maintenance by those appointed as concessionaires that will be in charge of roads and road shoulders,” added Abdul Rahman.
