Record labels say they want streaming services to charge more, as revenues reach record levels.

The UK's largest streaming service, Spotify, hasn't increased its prices since launching in 2009, with an individual subscription set at £9.99. Most of its competitors maintain a similar pricing structure.

In the meantime, labels are seeking to "monetise other forms of music consumption" by licensing songs to video games like Fortnite and Roblox, and fitness companies like Peloton.Bad Bunny had the highest-grossing tour of 2022 The turnaround is particularly encouraging, said Mr Granite, because "10 years ago [China] was almost entirely lost to piracy".BTS were the biggest band in the world, and the second most-popular act overall

It's the third time Swift has topped the annual worldwide chart since its inception 10 years ago, having previously been number one in 2014 and 2019.

Irresponsible journalism

This is a very weird and misleading headline.

Profiteering should be made illegal. The only organisation that should be able to make profit is the government.

Meanwhile a 1/3 of the world is without clean water. People r saving people’s lives for f all pay. At least 150 million people r homeless. 619,000 died of Malaria in 2021. 1/2 world get Cancer. 1/4 have a mental illness. TaxTheRich SaveOurNHS VoteReject EnoughIsEnough

So do the for the greedy license charge.

That’s nothing. Games make $175bn. That’s peanuts.

The only thing better than making $26 billion is making more than $26 billion. I’m sure they’ll be just as generous sharing that extra wealth with the artists as they are now.

As a musician I refuse to go back to streaming whilst suits continue with their corporate agenda. If you want something of mine you'll have to buy it.

i think the music industry should make less than that personally

People will still pay up as it’s cool to get ripped off

“Who in the music industry? Who in the music industry motherfucker?”.goose.jpeg

They can sod off, I only sign up to Spotify if they offer 3 months for £9.50, then I tell Google to remind me to cancel contract 2 months and 20 days before they can bill me again, I won't pay for music I never own

Did You Hire Daniel Ek To Write This Only Or Is It A Long Term Contract?

And this is me going back to piracy:

25 of them earnt 99% of it

Sure as long as every penny and every single 0.0002p per stream goes to the artists. Streamers have nothing without content. Artists don’t make enough

Google: Taylor Swift has a net worth of $400 million 🤦‍♂️

Speaking to a musician friend today he told me he needs 12000 streaming views to earn £6 from the new single he is releasing next week.

The industry does... But very few are on mega money.. have control over your own work like publishing etc ..instead

Let's all stop streaming for six months and they'll think again.

Wait till you hear about amazon

Anyone who buys music is a fool and you know what happens to their money 😉

Usual greed, then.

Investors always want more

Fails to talk about how little is paid to most artists for streamed music, and the increased cost and challenges of touring in Europe - which has drastically curtailed UK artist activity abroad.

daylight robbery

last time i checked music was free on the internet just go to youtube , who is paying for it

I wouldn't pay sod all for them

Everyone else is on the greed train. Why not musicians?

EVERY single entity has increased their prices! EVERY ONE🤬

Rentatune ! But are we there yet EddieHearn ?

Why Don’t You Take A Horse And Go Live In The Mountains Somewhere And Don’t Bother Anybody?

They need more private jets to save the environment.

hahaha always with the greed! when is enough enough?

I think the opposite. I think if you have listened to it enough times you have paid as much as buying the actual record then the stream should be free for that record.

The Oil Industry Wants Prices To Rise Too, Wheres The Concern About Them? Wheres The Implication Of Greed For Politicians Who Want Pay Rises? What A Bullshit Headline

Shouldn't be an industry - musicians and techies and roadies should be the ones getting paid. Not the suits. Fuck the suits.

For the woke few, not the many

To support the artists, should you..
