A multi-agency government panel on Thursday vowed to clamp down on data security risks stemming from foreign-linked business activity, as TikTok’s CEO sought to stave off a nationwide ban during a three-hour-long congressional hearing. For more than two years, CFIUS and TikTok have been negotiating on a possible deal that might address US security concerns and allow the app to continue operating in the United States.

“I think a lot of risks that are pointed out are hypothetical and theoretical risks,” Chew said. “I have not seen any evidence. I am eagerly awaiting discussions where we can talk about evidence and then we can address the concerns that are being raised.”Antony Blinken: TikTok"should be ended one way or another and there are different ways of doing that"U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken during a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on March 22.

Scotland also followed suit prohibiting TikTok on official Scottish Government devices Thursday following discussions with the British government on the “potential tracking and privacy risks from certain social media apps,” Deputy First Minister John Swinney said in a statement.

Members on the panel have hammered away at TikTok’s ties to China and disregarded CEO Shou Chew’s on-record, under-oath claims that TikTok is not an arm of the Chinese government. I think the market will provide them another venue, another app,” said Warner.

TikTok’s effort to address Washington’s security concerns by walling off US user data from China was met with skepticism from lawmakers at the hearing on Thursday.

This country has bigger problems than to worry about tiktok. He's a scapegoat for the bigger picture.

The fact that I can talk about Michael Kors with a friend, then 10 minutes later log onto Facebook or Instagram then get flooded with ads doesn’t concern these politicians is fucking SCARY. It’s happening here in Canada too.

I wonder will he be recalled to China never to be seen again?

One example of TikTok posing a threat to National Security is American Law Enforcement Officers having accounts. They are in full uniform, going Live while on duty. This should be a violation of their respective department's policies. newsroom should do a report on this.

Yes , young generation mental health, mental harassment in families, societies. TikTok should banned In USA.

Y'all are Soo goofy tiktok has effect on youths mental health but you wants the same youth to be transgenders lol clown country

They wanna ban an app instead of enforce new gun laws. This isn’t about protecting kids, it’s about profits. A congressman was asking where his cut was! Lmao. Also its not about security, cuz Facebook already sells ur info! It’s about censorship cuz news media and meta is dying!

Lol

Congress should look at all the porn surfacing on twitter lately. Oh wait, they do t give a crap unless they can use the argument for political bs.

So what is a non US citizen doing testifying before Congress if Tik Tok is trying to convince us they are not spying on us?

Remember when Trump warned us about Tik Tok? Bwahaha

👀

Just Tik Tok? Not Facebook? Instagram? Society in general?

It’s not just an issue for young people. Young Middle age adults with ‘wanna be’ ambitions get consumed with it.
