GM is taking a huge risk.

“Having choice is important,” Rowan wrote then. “We want our cars to fit our customers’ lives and devices.”, said it has no plans to do so at the expense of CarPlay and Android Auto.

“Our customers find value in our support of CarPlay, Android Auto, and Google built-in and we now offer these connected solutions across our lineup,” Honda spokesperson Jessica Fini said. “We will continue to offer a range of high quality, interactive solutions to provide value to our customers that match their own technology choices.”

Hyundai, which also owns a stake in Kia, said it has “plans to stop offering AppleCar Play and Android Auto on its vehicles, including EVs,” said spokesperson Miles Johnson.Spokespersons for Stellantis, BMW, Mercedes, and Toyota have yet to comment, but the trend lines are clear. Nearly every car on sale today offers CarPlay and Android Auto.

But GM isn’t completely alone in rejecting phone projection for its future EV lineup. Two pure EV automakers, Rivian and Tesla, don’t offer access to CarPlay and Android Auto, despite loud protests from customers. Both still manage to sell cars — in Tesla’s case,

5 years back I had a car totalled in a accident that at the time I had no intention of replacing as I liked it a lot and it was reliable with lower mileage. Forced into the market at the time few domestic cars had CarPlay/Android Auto but remarkably Hyundai/Kia did.

Absolute embarrassment GM

It's just GM being greedy with subscription fees and don't care about their customers. I can't wait for their plan to backfire.

I would not buy a vehicle without Apple CarPlay at this point. I had a Lexus GX 460, loved the ride and sustainability, hated the entertainment. Switched for a 22 Suburban, one main reason outside of the size was CarPlay. Now the GX has CarPlay, might go back.

big mistake. Why spend money developing an infotainment system for Apple just to make a better one. CarPlay is now an essential to have for most people. I upgraded my older cars to have CarPlay. GM just thinks it’s bigger than it is. They already make poor quality cars lol.

Volvo does not have Android Auto because they also use Android Automotive. I don't know why Android Automotive lacks support for Android Auto. Google said they would add casting, but where is it?

Typo, or burying the lede? andyjayhawk 'Hyundai, which also owns a stake in Kia, said it has “plans to stop offering AppleCar Play and Android Auto on its vehicles, including EVs,” said spokesperson Miles Johnson.'

I wish they didn't.... Best implementation would be v wireless display, with different apps having a 'car mode'... Android auto is still a failure in our companies 2023 Chevy Colorado.... Never tried Apples

Yeah... not going to buy a GM vehicle ever now lol. No Android or Apple CarPlay? Not interested.

I like the idea of my car lasting for 10yrs instead of it getting outdated 🤔

*the rest of the world, Except GM

Watch this fail spectacularly like BMW’s forced subscriptions for car projection. They thought customers wouldn’t bat an eye, but they were wrong. Now, if GM adds Apple Music app support, and some other things (like Porsche, who still offer CarPlay either way), maybe that…

I don't care about any car's infotainment. In fact, if there's no Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, I don't want the car. I like being able to plug my phone into any car and know what I'm getting. It's seamless.

Honestly why use anything else at this point and waste resources by developing your own solution that you have to also keep up to date? I use Android Auto all the time and it works great. GM is making a pretty big mistake imo

This is like retailers letting Amazon host their e-commerce sites in the early days. Eventually they’ll realize these companies are competitors and infotainment is a differentiator, especially in EVs. Anyone can make good software if they make it a priority financially.

If GM actually had a track record for delivering infotainment that wasn't an absolute dumpster people might be happy about this. The reason they both exist in the first place is GM can't deliver good software to save their ass. I'm sure they'll use a 2003 processor as well.
