For tens of thousands of Sydneysiders, a stop by the city's fish market is a must on Good Friday, which has been described as 'the biggest seafood day of the year'.

Seafood lovers began arriving at the Pyrmont marketplace even before doors opened at 5am, keen to get their hands on products like prawns and oysters for their Easter feasts.

"Fifty thousand is looking like it might be a conservative estimate. It might be even up to 70 or 80,000 today. There'd be a few thousand on site already. Mr Stollznow said there were"tonnes and tonnes of prawns on site", with prices at the moment"particularly healthy" and quality better than in previous years.

"Prawns have been feeding and breeding and spawning at a higher rate than they normally have," Mr Stollznow said. Good Friday is billed as many people's"biggest seafood day of the year". Picture: NCA NewsWire / Damian Shaw
