Thompson, 32, last played for the Chicago Bulls during the 2021-22 season, playing 23 games while averaging 5.7 points and 4.7 rebounds in 16.3 minutes per game. He also played for the Indiana Pacers and Sacramento Kings that same season, and played for the Boston Celtics during the 2020-21 season. Prior to that, Thompson spent nine seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, who drafted him fourth overall in the 2011 NBA Draft. The 6-foot-9 Thompson was an integral member of the Cavs’ four consecutive NBA Finals appearances from 2015 to 2018, and helped lead the team to win the“What he brings, his spirit, his positivity as well as the way he’s played, years and years of championship-level basketball,” Lakers coach Darvin Ham said of Thompson. “Championship pedigree.
Thompson joins the Lakers, the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference play-in tournament, just before their game against the No. 8 Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night.
