KUALA LUMPUR: There will be a review of the political appointment of several people at government-linked companies , Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Monday .

Former Baling Member of Parliament Abdul Azeez Rahim was reportedly mentioned by Mr Anwar as a GLC head whose appointment would be reviewed.Mr Anwar on Monday reportedly said that those who have been appointed as heads of government-linked companies were qualified for the role and are required to follow stricter rules.

In recent days, Ahmad Zahid - who is also the United Malays National Organisation president - has come out to defend the public sector appointments of senior UMNO officials. Mr Asyraf’s appointment at MARA was slammed in March by the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections . The group had also criticised the appointment of Balik Pulau MP Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik as MyCreative Ventures’ chairman.

The move was seen as part of the Pakatan Harapan's election campaign promise to dismantle political patronage. Mr Anwar is also the PH chairman.
