TikTok and Facebook's parent company Meta have both declined invitations to appear before the Oireachtas Media Committee next week. Members were told Twitter did not respond to the invite and the committee could not contact the organisation by telephone

TIKTOK AND FACEBOOK’S parent company Meta have both declined invitations to appear before the Oireachtas Media Committee next week.

“We would welcome a future opportunity to engage with the committee on TikTok’s approach to data governance and our Trust & Safety operations here in Ireland,” she said. “As a result, having considered the request carefully, I can’t see the benefit to either side of Meta attending this proposed session,” Mr Ó Broin wrote.

Fianna Fáil TD Malcolm Byrne, who sits on the committee, said in recent weeks the committee has been looking at the future of the media in Ireland.
