Three major utility companies in California are looking to restructure customer billing based on how much money you make.

California's three largest power companies - Southern California Edison, Pacific Gas & Electric, and San Diego Gas & Electric - have submitted a joint proposal to the Public Utilities Commission outlining a fixed rate restructuring that would be based on one's income.

The plan would break down monthly bills into the fixed rate plus a reduced usage charge based on consumption. According to officials this fixed-rate plan would reduce monthly bills for low-income customers and if electricity usage is controlled, bills would also be lowered.Above $180,000:

🖕off democrats in Sacramento and same to the utility companies. Can’t even keep the power grid going during the summer

Are they insane?

That should be blocked and is also an invasion of privacy. It is none of their business how much general customers make. No person should be forced to disclose their income in order to receive service especially from a public utility.

I currently paid lower than the proposed bracket I'm being considered for. Why do I need to pay more, again?

The utility cartels along with 87,000 armed FBI agents are going to be hunting us down and turning off our lights... VOTE REPUBLICAN AND GET RID OF THE HOSTILE TAKE OVER OF CALIFORNIA! 🇺🇸

Says not till 2025.. maybe.. okay looks like I will be out of here earlier..

Good luck everyone!

Sorry, but it's one of the dumbest ideas ever. If you use it , pay for it. I aint paying for someone's utility based on my income

Very bad middle class will get slammed

Good luck with that

I’m confused. Is this a flat fee regardless? Or a flat fee for X amount of kWh and if you go over that amount you are penalized/fined? If its a flat fee then me and the rest of California will run the AC all summer long. Something doesn’t make sense here

How about people who live in expensive area so don’t have as much disposable income as someone in a different area?

Idiocy

A California dream destroyed again no wonder everyone is moving out of the state

Always trying to go after people who worked hard and give away our money. Socialism sucks. Period.

More communist ideals. Pretty soon this will apply to all untitled and internet.

That is totally absurd. Keep it up and more people will be leaving California. Trying to put people, seniors and single in the poor house.

Ah fascist commi shit

Jfc

BS!!!

Why I worked hard, saved my money, and paid my bills before they are due is beyond me. What a fool I have been.

Allowing utilities access to our income without consent? Or it’ll be that box we have to check to agree to changes that will allow them access? Then it’ll be groceries, prescriptions, clothing, everything will have a “luxury” tax.

This is another stupid California commie idea to make everything equal among everyone! That’s bullshit! Rewarding bums while punishing hardworking individuals!!!

My income is none of their business. If they would stop paying executives exorbitant salaries, they would be able to keep prices within the realm of reasonable. Utilities are not luxuries and should be affordable for everyone. They have been price gouging lately.

How about , if you use it, you pay.

Lol, how about reclaiming taxpayer funded subsidies to elites who are the only ones buying EVs

shabby reporting, seemingly a utopian cost reduction that fails to breakdown the actual billing schedule…looks like a massive rate/profit hike in disguise. they took a 3 year pay cut? so did everyone else. time for a congressional audit as to who/which investment bankers are …
