Musk, in replying to William Shatner’s complaint about Twitter’s move to force users to pay for verified status
, “There shouldn’t be a different standard for celebrities” when it comes to verified status. Musk previously told Stephen King — who also balked at the notion of paying for a blue check-mark — “We need to pay the bills somehow!” Prior to Musk’s change allowing anyone to get a blue check-mark, Twitter had more than 420,000 verified accounts. The goal of Twitter’s original verification program, adopted in 2009, was to help people know that a high-profile user was, in fact, who they said they were to avoid confusion with imposters.
Can't charge Ri a fee for a blue tick, fucking appalling
It was fun while it lasted 😅🤷🏻♀️
Not to mention the Pope.
NerdyPam Welcome to the swamp
Elon acts like someone who thinks he’s smarter than everyone and also the most like-able. You’d need a thick skin to pull this off. But usually those who think they’re the smartest and most like-able are thin-skinned. Transparent and predictable in fact. Welcome to T_itter.
froomkin Why do this? Musk is being really weird.
People are so dramatic. So, u r entitled to something just cuz it used to b free? All companies evolve and change their policies… it doesnt mean u SHOULD always get everything for free. Just b thankful we had it in th first place.
Would you say the $1,000 a month has been worth it?
