As part of Musk's new push to get people and organizations to pay for access to Twitter's API, which had long been free for developers that applied for access and were approved, Twitter demanded the MTA pay Twitterfor access, the transit operator told Bloomberg. MTA was charged in the highest tier, a person familiar with the levels told Insider. The MTA simply refused and instead said it would rely on its own tools to keep its millions of daily riders informed.
