Shopify tried to challenge Amazon in logistics. It never came within 100 miles. Was it all a waste?

, a technology company that digitally ties together independent warehouses to function like one network, for $2.1 million. that the strategy would hang on the marriage of Deliverr, Shopify-operated warehouses, and technology from 6 River Systems.

Derek Lossing, an Amazon Logistics alum-turned investment advisor with Cirrus Global Advisors, said an acquisition-driven strategy may have been the right course — especially when the alternative involved contracting with legacy logistics players, which can take months. But the cost the company ultimately incurred has been hotly debated. One person who sees value in what Shopify has put together so far is Dave Clark, Flexport's CEO.
