Sofinnova Partners and Material Impact invested to scale up production of the performance fiber that aims to eliminate petroleum-based raw materials and synthetic dyes.

The tech eliminates the need for petroleum-based raw materials, harmful synthetic dyes and toxic finishes. The process is co-patented between the Fashion Institute of Technology and Columbia University.

The funding round will be used to advance the company’s first product and scale manufacturing capabilities. “We believe that biology will play an increasingly important role in the future of clothing and are excited to partner with Werewool in their mission to bring sustainable and biodegradable fibers to market,” said Michael Krel, partner at Sofinnova Partners.
