has opened its North American hub in Katy, bringing new jobs and educational opportunities to the area. The new location will be a consolidation of the company's operations and serve as its U.S. headquarters.
The compressor and chiller manufacturing giant on Wednesday opened its 7,200-square-foot factory, which will facilitate all the company’s commerce in North America.Mayekawa’s first foray into the U.S. was manufacturing compressors in California in 1967, said James Stoll, chief financial officer for Mayekawa North America. In 2011, Mayekawa opened its refrigerant manufacturing plant in Tennessee.
With the Katy location, Mayekawa will merge the two operations into one place, said marketing manager Yuko Tanaka. The new headquarters’ proximity to Interstate 10 and the Energy Corridor make it a strategic location for Mayekawa’s U.S. hub.“A lot of our suppliers are , and the oil and gas industry is something we’re strongly tied to,” Tanaka said.The company also plans to partner with Katy ISD and Lamar CISD to create programs for students in district welding courses.
“Welding is one of the biggest operations we have, and we want to work with districts to bring jobs to local high school students upon graduation,” Stoll said.
