Council bosses have hit out at the 'senseless' act

The glasshouse at Tollcross Park was vandalised on Tuesday night, with 12 panes of glass broken.

After closing in 2011 due to severe storm damage, the glasshouse was restored with more than £2.3m in public funds.bosses have slammed the"senseless" act and assured that security will be increased in the area. Councillor Ruairi Kelly, the convener for neighbourhood services and assets at Glasgow City Council, said: “£2.33m in public funds has been invested in the Glasshouse at Tollcross Park, and this senseless vandalism - with glass broken in 12 window panes - has caused damage at what is a notable feature of this well-loved East End Park.The funding came from the Scottish Town Centre Regeneration Fund, the Scottish Government’s Place Fund and the Community Asset Fund.

Tollcross Housing Association applied to take on the management of Tollcross Winter Gardens through the People Make Glasgow Communities programme, and they are currently working on their business plan and community engagement.
