KKR built a new client portal on AWS that helped the PE giant cut costs by 50%. An exec breaks down 3 things he wishes he knew ahead of time.

The new portal was built on Amazon Web Services.KKR had a problem with its client portal.

KKR's investor clients used the portal for a range of tasks, like accessing fund information and viewing reporting and analytics. But there are tradeoffs to serverless. One is you lose the depth of customization, because the client relinquishes some of the responsibility and control, which can limit functionality. "I know what you're going to say: 'I don't have any budget to rebuild everything from scratch,'" he said."You don't have to rebuild everything, you can do it piece by piece, or service by service, and gradually migrate to the cloud."
