Just a short subway ride to Pape Station can take residents and tourists alike on a mini vacation to Tibet.

But she and her store are collateral damage.

There is talk of a major highrise in the 700 block of Danforth Ave. and many others along the new line, there will be no chance for Dolkar to grow. The Tibet Shoppe is closing down after 31 years as a result of the new Ontario Line construction coming through The Danforth — Joe Warmington photo“I have moved the store a couple of times over the years but it’s too expensive to do it again,” she said.

All of her amazing inventory is being marked down as much as 50% for premium art works, clothing, books and instruments from the old country. While all of the efforts in the world are done to help the drug culture, leaving users and addicts to roam up and down the Danforth, this woman is thrown away like her contribution to the street and the city don’t matter. The owner of her building will be compensated in a market-rate fashion for the city and province needing the building to put a new subway line through near Pape Station — but for renters like her, it is not clear.
