TikTok has released its active user numbers for the Australian market for the first time. The move comes months after being in the spotlight over a ban on use on government-issued devices here in Australia. 9News

company's Australian office has today revealed that 8.5 million Australian users are active on the platform every single month.

Among them are 350,000 businesses that use TikTok as a marketing tool to reach new an existing audiences.TikTok Australia pointed to accounts such as Chebbo's Burgers, Chefs & Dogs, and Edgars Mission as examples of thriving business accounts that are benefitting from the large Australian user base.

It was announced in recent months that in the US a staggering 150 million users are on TikTok - that came ahead of a brutal senate committee hearing into TikTok and itsa ban on the TikTok app being used on government-issued devicesWith basically 30 per cent of the Australian population on TikTok, it seems impossible to imagine a ban any stricter than the one in place today for government devices, as no politician would want to risk putting 8.5 million Australians off-side.

TikTok's 8.5 million is still well short of the massive scale of Facebook, which has a user base of between 15 and 20 million, depending on the source.

Mr Plimer’s comments come after businesswoman Gina Rinehart was awarded Western Australian of the Year. “She’s the greatest Australian woman this country has ever produced, perhaps the greatest Australian this country has ever produced,” Mr Plimer said. “If it were not for what she has done, we would have lost some of the icons in this country, such as the Kidman Company. “She has been a huge supporter of the agricultural industry; she has started mines in places where there were previously no mines.”
