The market is anchored by two restaurants, La Margarita and the world-famous Mi Tierra café and bakery, first opened by Pete and Cruz Cortez in 1941 as a three-table café for workers and farmers. There is also a food court.In the 1890s, the market was moved from main plaza, Plaza de Armas, to its current location to accommodate new settlers.

Immigrants from Asia, Europe and the Middle East added their flavors to the Mexican market via restaurants, grocery stores, social clubs and pharmacies.
