Re: “Bill would limit auto inspections — Many North Texas drivers will still have to pass emissions test,” Tuesday Metro & Business story.

The writer of this letter asserted that “Democrats controlled the House, the Senate and the presidency” for two years and yet did nothing to pass a ban on semi-automatic weapons. A ban on semi-automatic “assault style” weapons was passed by the House in July 2022. But the 60 votes necessary to bring it to a vote in the Senate were not there. Perhaps the writer is not aware of the filibuster rule in the Senate. To control the Senate would require a 60-vote majority.

As I had always received the ballot at least four weeks in advance at our address of 30 years, four weeks prior to the May election, I found the form that now is apparently required for a mail-in ballot. But it was too late to complete the ballot for every year, so I just checked for the May election and runoff.
