A Colorado Circle K employee is suing the company after she was fired for putting her hands on an armed thief that snatch a pack of cigarettes from behind the counter.
It’s not clear in surveillance footage obtained by KDVR whether or not he ever threatened Moreno with the knife, but Willmer did ask if she would give him a pack of cigarettes for free. Moreno declined, telling him she would get fired if she did. Willmer can be seen on camera walking around outside the store after the theft. Moreno said she immediately called her manager and 911.Another customer who was in the store at the time, Larry Wagner, had already called the police after seeing Willmer with the knife. He suspected that Willmer may have been on drugs based on his demeanor.
The shoplifter, Tyler Wimmer, was later arrested and pleaded guilty to robbery and other charges from separate cases.Moreno’s attorney, Iris Halpern, said the footage clearly shows that Moreno acted naturally in self defense.
