The Maharlika Investment Fund Bill is only waiting for the signature of Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri before the Senate transmits it to Malacañang for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s signature, Deputy Senate Majority Floor Leader JV Ejercito said.

Senator Joseph Victor Ejercito on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, says only the signature of Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri is needed on the Maharlika Investment Fund Bill before the Senate transmits it to the Palace. Bibo Nueva España/Senate PRIB/File photo

Ejercito said Zubiri is still in Washington DC in the US for an official trip. One of the options to have the Senate president’s signature on the bill is for Senate Secretary Renato Bantug Jr. to fly to the US. “Alam ko inayos na ‘yun before it will be forwarded to Malacañang. That’s why it took a while. Inayos muna. Made sure na malinis ‘yung bill bago po ito ma-forward sa Malacañang,” Ejercito said.

For her, the inconsistent provisions are not mere typographical errors or “cosmetic” errors but a “substantive error.” Even if Congress corrects the MIF bill, Hontiveros maintained that she will vote against the measure as she believes that there are more “fundamental cracks” and “substantive errors” which opens the possibility for the measure to be challenged before the Supreme Court.
