There are no easy answers as to the best way to manage a country’s utilities - but Britain’s water network is looking like an example of what not to do, writes HugoGye

– there is, of course, no way that ministers can just stand back and allow 15 million people to go without water for an indefinite period. They would have to step in with some sort of financial guarantee, even if that stopped short of a full bailout.when the proverbial hits the fan.. This would be a pricey and time-consuming exercise at a time when the country has so many other pressing problems.

Moreover, it is still true that taking water into private ownership has been an effective way of getting more investment into the network, despite the current problems.
