Eighteen of El Rancho Supermercado’s stores are in Dallas-Fort Worth. The others are in Austin and Houston, and one is in Liberal, Kan.The acquisition of El Rancho Supermercado “aligns our growth strategy” to build a portfolio of companies, said the statement from Heritage.

Heritage has been acquiring regional chains with stores in Illinois, California, Nevada, Arizona and now Texas. Cardenas is the largest of the chains with 57 stores. Others are Tony’s Fresh Market and Los Altos Ranch Market.Apollo acquired Cardenas in June 2022 from KKR and already owned Chicago-based grocer Tony’s Fresh Market. The brands continue to operate separately under the Heritage Grocers Group umbrella.
