The US helicopter company that operated Rescue 116, which crashed into Blackrock Island off the Mayo coast in 2017, killing all four people on board, also claims there was a conflict of interest in the decision to give the state search and rescue contract to another company

The unsuccessful bidder for an €800 million contract to provide search and rescue services to the state has alleged that there was “political interference” in the competition process, High Court filings show.

CHC Ireland DAC, part of a Texas-based helicopter company, also cited an alleged conflict of interest as to why a decision to award the contract to Bristow Ireland Ltd, another US-based company, was flawed and should be set aside.
