San Antonio-based insurance and financial services company USAA has reported a data breach involving “unauthorized individuals” gaining access to the personal information of a “limited number” of its members.

USAA spokesman Andrew Femath said the breach originated with a contractor.

The third-party service provider immediately contacted USAA when it became aware of the breach, USAA said. It added in its notice that it is monitoring the affected members’ accounts for any suspicious activity. San Antonio-based Generations Federal Credit Union reported earlier this month that about 18,000 of its members were affected by a breach.
