NEW DELHI — A court in southern India has dismissed a lawsuit brought by Twitter that challenged broad censorship orders issued by Indian authorities, marking a victory for an increasingly assertive Indian government that has sought to bring foreign technology companies to heel and corral social media discourse.
Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the junior information technology minister from Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party , applauded the decision in aThe nonprofit Internet Freedom Foundation in New Delhi said the outcome of the case would deny Twitter users any recourse to challenging government censorship in India.
