The federal government says Australians are facing a 'scamdemic', with investment scams costing us over $1billion per year.

abc.net.au/news/government-launches-anti-scams-centre/102552974The federal government has deployed its first "hit squad" against scammers with the launch of the National Anti-Scams Centre .The National Anti-Scams Centre brings together experts from public agencies and private industries to disrupt scammersThe operation will last six months, with the centre publicly reporting outcomes

It also links scam victims, who have lost money or had their identity compromised, with support services. "There is a scamdemic. No one is safe. Scammers are getting more sophisticated and costing Australians billions of dollars," Mr Jones said. Investment scams currently account for over 50 per cent of all scam losses, costing Australians over $1 billion a year."The partnership across Government, business, and consumer organisations through the NASC, show a united front as we continue to take up the fight to scammers," he said.
