Universal film chief Donna Langley is set to take control of content and creative ops across NBCUniversal’s portfolio of brands, as TV chief Susan Rovner exits the company.

The shakeup in leadership is the first major restructuring move made by Mike Cavanagh since he took over ousted Jeff Shell’s position atop the Comcast-owned media company.

NBCUniversal declined to comment Thursday. Numerous sources said Langley will gain oversight of all creative across film, television and streaming. From an operational standpoint, NBCUniversal’s streaming product Peacock is still expected to report to Matt Strauss, head of direct-to-consumer and international, another source added.

Meanwhile, sources say NBCU’s chairman of television and streaming, Mark Lazarus, will also be promoted as part of this re-org, though details regarding his expanded role have yet to be confirmed. Langley is a pedigreed film executive known for deep filmmaker relationships and long-term vision in building original tentpole IP. She currently serves as a chair of the Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, a title she earned in 2019. She previously served as Chairman of Universal Pictures, a role she held for a decade to great effect — offering up blockbusters like “Jurassic World” and building out the top-earning “Fast and Furious” franchise.
