The co-owner of a company which boasts some of Melbourne's top restaurants has spoken of the challenges faced by small businesses in the city after administrators were called in.

Calia Australia, described as an"unique Australian restaurant-to-retail brand", called in administrators after recently facing"significant challenges".

The restaurants remain operating but Mr Chang said in a statement the company had been hit hard by the impacts of the pandemic, the Herald Sun reported. "Calia venues are currently operating as normal, and are fully committed to providing regular updates to all stakeholders as it works through the voluntary administration process."

"Mental health has always had a social stigma, especially in Asian culture, but it really shouldn't be," Mr Chang wrote. Mr Chang also laid bare the financial challenges faced by his business, with rising costs associated with staff wages, the cost of goods sold and rent.
