Her signature quick mix, which is sold online and at Bannock Express in Saskatoon, was showcased on Dragon’s Den earlier this year.

Smith’s inspiration came from seeing a video online of someone offering pizza to those who might not be able to buy it.

Angus recalls the sense of community that came from customer interactions, especially meal donations to surrounding homeless shelters, hospitals, care homes, or people in the downtown core. Following Christmas 2022, Smith urgently needed to relocate her business. She took to social media to spread the word to loyal customers, who came together to help Smith and her team.

Made in the Bannock Express kitchen, the Quick Mix product and other offerings of the business have been in steady demand in post-pandemic Saskatoon.Smith had been trying to get on Dragons’ Den since the beginning of her business seven years ago. She submitted applications, did interviews and took part in auditions after late-night catering jobs. This year, following a 45-minute-long pitch, Smith got the call to come to Toronto and be on the show.
