Police on Tuesday released photos of a red gasoline “jerry” can and the label from another gasoline container, which police believe are connected to the arson on Booth Street.The body of 17-year-old Hussein Hamam was discovered in the wreckage of the building at 384 Booth St. in an investigation led by homicide detectives with assistance from the arson unit.
The Ottawa Police Service said officers responded to the fire on the property in Ottawa’s Chinatown district in the early hours of Wednesday, shortly after midnight.Article content“If people who have door cams could check between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m., that would be helpful,” Staff Sgt. Stephanie Burns said.
The property was listed for sale a little more than two months ago. Real estate agent Luigi Aiello said the upstairs apartment had been occupied in the past, but the unit was most recently vacant. MSR Construction has offices in two locations, including one at the building on Booth Street, which it was still using, he said.
