'When you’re just starting out in your career, each task you’re assigned may feel equally important. But putting 110% into every item on your to-do list is a recipe for burnout.'

While the drivers of stress and disengagement vary, working through an economic recession, geopolitical instability, and industry-wide layoffs is likely adding to the anxieties of young professionals. If you’re among them, how do you manage? How do you regain a sense of control over your career and stay engaged at work without burning out?

Once you understand where your company wants to invest its resources, you can strategically plan to overdeliver on tasks directly tied to those areas. It’s helpful to keep your boss in the loop to ensure that your efforts don’t go to waste. During your check-ins, communicate how you plan to manage your current workload, including what you’re prioritizing and why. You should aim to shine on projects and tasks that will get you noticed.

The easiest way to do this? Upon receiving praise, ask your client if they’d be willing to send it to you in writing so that you can share it with your team — and then forward the note to your boss . This simple ask will make your work and its impact more visible to stakeholders throughout your organization and serve as evidence for your competence.

For instance, maybe you’ve successfully completed a challenging project — mention it in your next team meeting. Or maybe you wrote or contributed to an article on a new, interesting topic — message it to your boss or coworkers. Be simple and straightforward. You could write, “Hello team, I recently published an article on [topic]. I think the piece has some useful insights, so I’m sharing it here for those of you who might be interested.
