Health experts from the National Institute for Occupational Health have highlighted the importance for companies to prioritise the health and safety of their employees in the workplace.

Addressing a webinar hosted in collaboration with the National Economic Development and Labour Council, experts sensitised organisations aboutMuzimkhulu Zungu of the National Institute for Occupational Health, says while COVID-19 infections and deaths have declined, it is critical for organisations to provide health access for all workers, while expanding paid leave.

“COVID-19 came with several issues not just mental health issues but also financial issues for workers. Programs such as employee health and wellness are of paramount importance, we must continue to provide them where possible.

South African National Carrier In New Strategic PartnershipThe Competitions Tribunal has approved a 51% takeover of South African Airways (SAA) by Harith General Partners and Global Aviation, with the condition that minority shareholders in the two entities, sell their shares. The two firms had to also agree that no retrenchments will take place at SAA. The government will keep a firm minority stake of 49%, writes Jerry Chifamba for AllAfrica. SAA will hopefully see an end to its years-long financial woes, brought on by mismanagement and corruption. Numerous financial bailouts by the South African government and taxpayers over the years, did not help the airline get over its financial crisis. The airline was placed in business rescue in 2021.
